UKIP Offers ‘Ideologically Pure’ Conservatism, But Defectors are Self-Indulgent

POLITICAL defectors to UKIP are choosing a course of action that is ‘self-indulgent’ according to a senior representative of Manchester Conservative Future, London Spin can reveal. In an exclusive interview with this newspaper, Henry Hill, GMCF Chairman said, “As someone whose results on Vote for Policies came out as 5 UKIP and only one Tory, I can see the attraction.”

He continued, “Aside from the European issue they represent the sort of ideologically 'pure' conservatism that much of the party wishes was the Conservative Party position. Fundamentally, on all issues except Europe they're Tories who have not compromised with the electorate and cleaved to the middle.”

"Like old Labour, that approach might feel great but UKIP's failure to break through in domestic elections should be a major warning sign. In an era when the Conservatives are really struggling to find the coalition of voters needed for a majority government, going the UKIP route and tacking to the right is self-indulgent at best, suicidal at worst,” he added.

Henry the major issue is Europe, If we just stood up for what the majority of our grassroots members believe on the EU that is having a referendum on EU membership and campaigning to leave, then perhaps people would not feel the need to go to UKIP.

It is time that we stood up for eurosceptic values, if not the trickle of defectors will become a stream i fear.

I personally will fight for a eurosceptic line in the Conservative Party, believing that is what the majority of members want. I can however totally understand the frustation of people such as Alexandra Swann and Roger Helmer, who I respect. Our party is weaker without them and perhaps if we'd stuck to our Thatcherite principles they wouldn't feel the need to leave our party.

More tosh from Hoff. He should put on a purple mini skirt, pick up two pom poms and carry on being a cheerleader for UKIP.

Hoff, most of the country does not view all the UK's problems through the prism of the EU and thus UKIP continues to remain a single-issue party that thrives only in European elections.

If we'd stuck to the sort of positions necessary to keep UKIP defectors inside the party, we wouldn't have a hope of forming a government.

if i remember correctly , Rodger helmer defected because we wouldn't allow the chosen replacement to be the conservative mep for the area , hardly something that provides a threat to our hopes of forming a government one would have thought.
