Why it’s All Gravy in Conservative Future

Like the changing seasons of nature, Conservative Future shape shifts and transforms due to a variety of influential factors throughout the year. As the organisation shifts into a period dubbed ‘the great migration’ in the press, this newspaper has launched an investigation examining last year’s gravy revolution and the impact it has had on the national organisation.

For many years the National Tory Youth team has been slammed for its London-centric approach to management, with power concentrated in the capital and kept away from the Midlands and the North. Now, with a newly elected committee, some of the North’s shining stars have been elected to the very top of the political tree and things are changing, for the better.

“As a former Area Chairman in Warwickshire, I welcome anything that might help CF reach out to the regions, and having more non-London representatives on the National Exec obviously does this to an extent,” says Jonny Cope, Chairman, Croydon CF.

He continues, “However, it is still the case that 'National CF' events are almost exclusively held in London, and until this changes the National CF structure will continue to appear distant in places like Warwickshire. For instance, I thought the CF National Conference would have been a great opportunity to hold a major CF event outside of London (perhaps in Birmingham, or another central location), but it is being held in London and this continues to add to the perception (right or wrong) that CF is a London-focused organisation.”

The general CF consensus is that the gravy revolution has done a lot of good for the dynamics of the organisation, but the efforts of outreach need to be built upon for the long term.

I was also very happy as part of Leeds CF to compete in the election. Time will only tell whether the organisation can truly become national, representing all members.
